Fraser Island 4wd Hire
The only way to get around this massive sand island is by four-wheel-drive. There are no bitumen roads on Fraser Island outside of the resorts. Hiring your own 4 wheel drive allows you to take your own time viewing the many wonders of Fraser Island. It gives you both freedom and adventure, and a sense of control over your Fraser Island experience. 
A road across Fraser Island Whether or not you own your own 4-wheel drive or you are using one the hire companies that operate from Hervey Bay, Brisbane, Eurong Beach Resort, Kingfisher Bay Resort and Fraser Island Wilderness Retreat, you will need a vehicle access permit. These permits must be attached to the windscreen of your vehicle at all times, costs around $34 and are available at the ferry departure points.
All of the hire companies will provide a run down on how to drive on the island, dingo safety information and a driving safety video. Copies of this video are available from the Maryborough National Parks office and Naturally Queensland Information Centre in Brisbane.
