Bird watching is a popular activity on Fraser Island. There are over 325 different species of birds that frequent the Island. The diverse range of vegetation communities lends themselves to support a wide variety of birds including Honeyeaters, Raptors, Sea birds, Kingfishers, robins and many more.Bird Watching on Fraser Island

It is common to see Brahminy Kites, Pied Oyster Catchers and terns along the coastal areas of the Island. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for white cheeked honeyeaters, blue faced honeyeaters, red backed fairy wrens, white breasted woodswallows, mistletoe bids and scarlet honeyeaters in the wallum communities. Eastern yellow robins, whipbirds and sulphur crested cockatoos can also be found in the rainforest at Central Station. Part of the Fraser Island coast has been designated a RAMSAR site in order to protect the areas frequented by migrating birds from the northern hemisphere.

For the keen birdwatcher, Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village holds its annual bird week in May each year.
