Camping on Fraser Island

There are both National Park and private Camp Grounds on Fraser Island. You can camp at one of the 6 national park campgrounds on the Eastern beach at Waddy Point and Dundaburra, on the Western beach at Wathumba, or Inland at Central Station, Lake Boomanjin and Lake Allom. Basic facilities are provided including showers, picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and tap water. We recommend that you take a collection of $1 and 50c coins so you can spoil yourself and have a hot shower after a long day in the sun.

Generators are not allowed and we suggest that you take insect repellent. Bookings are essential for Waddy Point, Central Station, One Tree Rocks beach camping Zone and Dundubara. You can book you campsite ahead by going to www.epa.qld.gov.au and following the links to BOOK YOUR CAMPSITE HERE. Dundubara campsite is also suitable for caravans. We suggest that you lock all food and rubbish in your vehicle or campground lockers and secure eskies with tight straps to discourage dingoes. Fines apply for not complying to basic dingo-safe camping practices.Camping on Fraser Island

You can also camp at signed places along the beach although no facilities are provided and campers must remove all of their own rubbish. We recommend that you take any extra rubbish that you see lying around and can fit in your car. You can collect your camping tag and information pack before you reach the island. Your camping tag must be attached to your tent easily visible by rangers. These are available at the Ferry Terminals before you leave the mainland. All campers must have a camping permit which are $4 per person per night. This is not an exuberant amount and all proceeds from camping permits are used to protect and prolong Fraser Island’s natural environment.

Private camp sites are available at Dilli Village and Cathedral Beach both of which range in price from $25 per site up to $40 for powered sites. The majority of these prices are for 2 persons with an additional charge for any extra people on top of these.

Food, gas refills, ice and fuel are available at Happy Valley, Eurong, Cathedral Beach, Orchid Beach and Kingfisher Bay. Public telephones are located around the island (see map). There is no medical assistance on the island. We strongly recommend you take a well-stocked first aid kit.
