Fraser Island - Location & Getting There

Fraser Island is situated just off the mainland of Australia in the Fraser Coast region of Queensland and is approx 250km north from Queensland's captial city, Brisbane. Access to the island is done via ferry. There are several feries departing and returning to Fraser Island throughout the day.

Fraser Island - From Brisbane

From Brisbane CBD head out along the Inner City Bypass. This will take you to Kingsford Smith Drive. Continue on Kingsford Smith Drive and take the Gateway Motorway, the sign will say Brisbane Airport - Gateway Arterial Rd. Follow the Gateway Motorway, you will be directed to the Sunshine Coast by drving in the left lane. Continue on and the Gatewat will merge with the Bruce Highway. Follow the Bruse Highway through Gympie (aprrox 140km). From Gympie you are able to divert to Rainbow Beach or continue on to Hervay Bay.

Fraser Island - From Rainbow Beach

Upon arrival in Gympie follow the signs to Rainbow Beach. The main road leads directly to Rainbow Beach and will take you approx 40min. After arriving in Rainbow Beach, pass the gold mining museum, and into the township proper. Follow the signs to Inskip Point where the ferry departs. It is a good idea to refuel at Rainbow Beach before departing for Fraser Island.

Fraser Island - From Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay is approx a 3hr drive north of Brisbane and approx 2hr's north of Noosa. From Gympie follow ther Bruce Highway north and take the Maryborough exit. Follow the main road through Maryborough and follow the signs to Hervey Bay. To locate the ferry in Urangan follow Baot Harbour Drive til it's final destination.

If you are departing from River Heads ferry, upon arriving in Hervey Bay follow the signs to the airport. Once past the airport continue for approx 4km until you reach a left hand turn signed River Heads. Turn left and continue for 10min until you reach the ferry terminal.
