Highlights of Fraser Island
There are many reasons why people choose to visit Fraser Island. From our experience, these range from ‘relaxation’, ‘getting away from it all’ to having a ‘break with the family’. Some of the sights that people come to the island for are:
- The Amazing Lakes of the Island. There are 52 freshwater lakes including Lake Mckenzie.
- Maheno Shipwreck-washed ashore in a cyclone in 1935 whilst being towed to Japan for wrecking.
- Eli Creek a natural water outlet into the ocean that will draw a crowd any day of the year for a refreshing dip in its cool waters.
- Coloured Sands- an amazing sight with an array of different colours in the sand highlighting Fraser’s evolution over the last 400,000 years.
- Sand Dune Systems
- Indian Head- named by Captain Cook during his travels up the Queensland coast. It is said that he named the point after he had seen a group of Aborigines on the headland, hence, “Indian Head.”

Indian Head, Fraser IslandChampagne Pools- an amazing series of rock pools filled up by tidal movement. Makes for a lovely stroll from Indian Head along the beach.- 75 Mile Beach- one of the only beaches in the world designated as both a highway and an airstrip.
